2024 Planned Operations

Planned Activity Map

N4N/m

The N4N Rover routes for 2024 GQP are finalized. This year, the Multi 2 (Mixed) Yukon is manned by me (K5JR), Tim (WK4U) and Mark (KX4MZ). The routes generally follow our historical Saturday and Sunday paths, with some subtle changes to the order, like starting closer to Atlanta on Saturday. The Saturday base county count is 26 and Sunday is 25. Both routes have additional counties that can be in play if we arrive at the 26 or 25 end points early. Maybe traffic and weather will be kind to us.

We will again be self spotting from the Yukon as coverage allows. It’s pretty good except for parts of SE GA. We are planning to have an APRS presence, N4N-5 (or K5JR-5 as a backup). Like past years, we will have a station on 40m for the duration, and the second station jumping from 20 – 15 – 10 during the day, 80 – 75 – 20 late afternoon and 80 – 75 after dark. A different antenna setup this year for 20/15/10 should allow us to band change faster as we fly though the counties. SSB operation is probably relegated to the larger county that we have to cross. The stations are a pair of Flex radios (6300 & 6500), Dunestar bandpass filters, Hi-Q 5-80RT and 4-80RT, plus a Hustler 20/15/10 stick. The operators are in the back seat with laptops, paddles and a Flex Control. The 6300 has participated in every run since the inaugural M2 outing in 2015. We actually did a few of the early years with a pair of 6300’s. The Yukon (and me) have been doing this in some fashion since 2010 when the hook got set hard.
